Glengarriff village in West Cork is to host the second Jim Dowling Piping Festival (20th-22nd June 2014) in honour of the late piper Jim Dowling who embodied the best of the area’s unique musical tradition.

Glengarriff’s first Piping Festival in 2013 acknowledged the long legacy of piping in the area and the talents of musician Jim Dowling.

This year’s festival will focus on the music of both local pipers and guest appearances by some outstanding artists including De Danann (performing in the Eccles Hotel, Friday June 20th), and Liam O’Flynn (performing in the Glengarriff Park Hotel, Saturday June 21st), as well as Jackie Daly, Liam O’Connor and many more.

While many of the festival events are free to access, you can  book mainline events like the ‘The Big Blowout Concert’ (Saturday 21st) featuring The Drôle, Matt Cranitch, Jackie Daly, Eoin O Riabhaigh, Liam O’Connor and Seán McKeon, also starring Nell ní Chróinín and Seán Ó Sé.

With uilleann, accordion and fiddle workshops, pipe-making classes, master classes, pipe bands, visits from guest artists and the return of the successful ‘Piping for Pint’ Session Trails – this year’s Uilleann Pipe and Trad Festival has something to offer any traditional music enthusiast set in the magnificent surroundings of Glengarriff village.
